As the one of the major sponsors and organiser, Digga together with other sponsors and supporters within the earthmoving industry, were able to raise $32,500 in donation at the Diesel Dirt and Turf Annual Charity Golf Day 2019. More than 130 golfers teed off at the event on the 15th of March to support the Ovarian Cancer research foundation.
"At Digga we have given to many different charities over the years. But we’ve made the decision that ovarian cancer research is our cause now. We’re very grateful to be given the ability to select the charity for this event... The OCRF are fantastic people and it’s a great cause that’s close to many of us at Digga and within the wider industry.”
The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) was chosen as Digga’s partner charity, as Ovarian cancer has touched our industry greatly with the passing of Digga CEO, Suzie Wright in June 2018. Also Steve Zivkovich from Semco, the driving force behind the National Diesel Dirt and Turf Expo, lost his mother to this terrible disease. The OCRF is dedicated to developing and implementing an early detection program and improving the mortality rate, management and long-term survival of women with ovarian cancer.
Besides sponsored holes, various competitions, and the 18-hole golf game, small ways of increasing donations were set throughout the day. From a “cheat hole”, where players could pay to move up the fairway 100 or 200m depending on donation - to the golf police, who wrote out tickets for wrongdoings on the course, all in good humour. Competitions for putting, longest and straightest drive were held as well as a presentation after a sit-down lunch.
Over 40 lots were up for grabs in the day’s raffle while some great pieces were available in the silent and live auctions including a Tiger Woods signed frame, a Toro lawnmower, Bill Clinton signed book, signed Panthers memorabilia, signed Bottle'O Racing and signed Bronco shirt, a Sydney craft brewery private group tour and many more.
"We are extremely grateful for the incredible generosity of the earthmoving industry, pretty much every company involved donated prizes or similar to auction or raffle off. We are thankful the organisers of DDT gave us the opportunity to choose our own charity.”
To top it all, Suzie’s family offered to match the amount raised on the day, which will total donations to around $65,000! Digga is extremely grateful for the outcome of this event and hopes that the donation will go a small way to helping saves women’s lives in the future.
